A Message from the Rector, June 13, 2025
Dear St. Patrick’s,
In the last months, my family has been discerning the best way we can serve God’s church in our rapidly changing world. We’ve loved serving alongside the people of St. Patrick’s and at the same time, we’ve also felt a pull to explore all of our options. This letter is to let you know that I’ve accepted that call to be the next Rector of the Ray Valley Benefice in the Diocese of Oxford, England.
While I’m excited about the opportunities ahead, one of the hardest parts of this discernment has been knowing that this would mean saying goodbye to you sooner than I had planned on. The heartbreak is real, but please know it comes with my full confidence that St. Patrick’s will continue to thrive. You are a church of warmth, good humor, and spiritual depth and integrity. Somewhere out there is a priest who doesn’t yet realize how lucky they are to be your next rector.
My last Sunday with you will be July 20th and these last five weeks with you will focus on relishing in my time with you. Jill Lane, your senior warden, is working closely with the diocese on securing an interim priest and those plans will be made public as soon as they are finalized. While there’s a lot of work involved in discerning this transition, it’s important that the work waits to begin free of my influence after I have left. The best thing you can do right now is pray for this transition.
St. Patrick’s will always be a part of me. Being your priest has been a joy and an honor. Please keep me in your prayers as I will continue to keep you in mine.
With love and blessings,
-Cortney+
